Every so often you are approached by a client with an idea that really peaks your interest. An idea that is not for a high volume fleet or a welfare van, in which we specialise. This was a creative challenge for 2 bespoke conversations that really got our juices flowing.
Our sales and design team worked closely with Conwy County Council and Evans Halshaw to produce a conversion that was not only unlike anything we had produced before but also for a great cause. This out of the ordinary “mobile youth centre” allows young adults to have a safe environment in which to socialise without the need to travel.
The vans are not only kitted out with large flatscreen TVs, sound-bars and cooking facilities but also our standard safety items including first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
The build itself makes the most of the space by using bench seating (with storage and usb charging points) wrapping around the off-side and back of the vehicle, with fold down seating on the near side, all underlit with blue ambient lighting. This seating arrangement not only allows for more “bums on seats” but also the space for a wheelchair, with access via detachable ramps that can be easily affixed at the side entry door when needed.
When not in use the ramps are neatly stored in the back of the vehicle under the bench seats. The access through the rear doors also allows for storage of a collapsable table that can be utilised externally to extend the space beyond the inside of the van.
This whole build was conceived to inspire from the inside out and it certainly does that with the whole conversion neatly finished off with a fully custom vinyl wrap.
This project was a chance to make Conwy County Councils ideas a reality by going above and beyond their brief - a challenge we where excited by and more than capable of delivering.
